Back in February, Alys Club hosted a magical evening at Slovenia’s National Gallery in Ljubljana. A gathering of art enthusiasts, collectors, artists, and friends has claimed a massive spot in our club’s history.
A intently curated private art exhibition of the works of Borut Stanič was experienced through a witty paint & sip class, where guests could express their own vision and emotions on a piece of canvas, all while sipping a wonderful selection of wines.

The exceptional atmosphere created by the live music, stunning floral arrangements, soft fabrics, and everyone present lingers still. This is a post that should have been uploaded shortly after the event, but an unexpected event pressed pause on the life of me and my family.
Borut is a big part of who I am – my grandpa has taught me so much about creativity, playfulness and authenticity, while my grandma, who was also, to my great honor, present at the event, has taught me resilience, elegance and grace.
The deep bond I share with my family is my backbone, and my grandparents are my guiding stars. Both my husband and I learn from them every day, love them with admiration and clarity, and only hope to carry a fraction of their grace with us. This event was our way of honoring them, and of honoring my grandpa as the talented painter he is.
The evening air in the National Gallery was dense with magic. We all felt it, the honesty and depth of the moment, and all moments that lead to it. Borut and Irena talked about it after for two and a half days straight, reminiscing and enjoying the lingering excitement. And then, in the afternoon of the third day, my grandma has passed away. It hit us all like nothing has ever hit before.
So let this post be a reminder of the fleetingness of life. A reminder of how important it is to be present in each moment, within yourself and with others. Words cannot express the gratitude and joy I feel because of Irena and Borut are my grandparents. Life is precious, and so are memories.
